Carey’s Balsamroot

Washington’s state flower is the Pacific Rhododenron. No complaints there, but in the dry land meadows I mostly trek balsamroot makes its case, both in the early blooming arrowleaf variety, and the later blooming, and glossier, Carey’s variety, photographed here, in the uplands near Fishtrap Lake.
